How NEU came to be
The Center for Ukrainian Studies (NEU) was founded in December 2024 in the Department of Political Science at the University of São Paulo, in response to the growing need for qualified academic production on Ukraine in Brazil — a field still little explored in Brazilian academia.
The initiative brought together researchers from multiple Brazilian and European institutions with backgrounds in Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Philosophy and Human Rights, all dedicated to producing rigorous analyses of Ukraine from non-hegemonic perspectives.
In April 2025, NEU had its first international project approved by the Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies program, in partnership with the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
NEU is registered with DGP CNPq.
What drives us
Strengthening the production of knowledge about Ukraine in Brazil — contributing to academic debate, researcher training and public understanding of a conflict that is redefining the international order.
